Become a Mentor

Support.

Are you looking for a way to give back to the industry? Research has shown that young veterinarians experience high levels of burnout and low levels of wellbeing. Though the transition to practice may be particularly challenging, you have the power to help.

Grow.

As a MentorVet Connect Mentor, you’ll gain CE credit while volunteering as you’ll be participating in a free five-hour virtual mentor orientation & suicide intervention training to prepare you for your role of supporting early-career veterinarians. This training has been approved for five hours of continuing education credit in jurisdictions that recognize RACE approval. In addition, we provide ongoing training opportunities to help you to continue honing your mentoring skills.

Connect.

After completing mentor training, you’ll join our mentor platform where you will be connected with a new or recent graduate within a similar practice type. For six months, expect to spend around one hour per month connecting with your mentee. Communication with mentees is usually via virtual meeting, email, phone calls, or texting - whatever the preference of the mentor/mentee pair. At the end of the six months, you can choose to continue mentoring your mentee and/or be paired with a new mentee. Engage in optional monthly mentor connection sessions to connect with other mentors in the program.

“MentorVet has not only developed a unique platform to help fill the mentoring gap that currently exists within veterinary medicine, but it has also really 'professionalized' the process of mentorship through training, connection, and community. This has provided valuable skills and guidance for me to be more effective personally, and overall, it results in a much better experience for both the mentors and mentees involved.”
