Evidence Shows That Rapidly Growing National Veterinary Mentorship Program Promotes Early-Career Wellbeing

MentorVet Releases Yearly Impact Report Revealing Promising Results

Lexington, KY, July 19, 2022 – MentorVet, a rapidly growing entity that leverages evidence-based approaches to empower individuals to thrive within veterinary medicine, has just released their yearly impact report revealing that their flagship program, the MentorVet Program, supported over 200 early-career veterinarians over the past year. This report highlighted evidence that after completing the program, MentorVet participants had a significantly higher average wellbeing level as compared to a control group.

Addie Reinhard, DVM, MS, Founder & CEO of MentorVet

The MentorVet Program is a five-month, entirely virtual, evidence-based mentorship and professional development program that supports veterinarians through a combination of professional skills training, financial and mental health coaching, and individualized mentorship.

“We create mentorship structures that allow individuals to feel safe discussing the challenges they may face in their careers and provide professional development so veterinary professionals feel empowered to support themselves and others within the profession,” stated Addie Reinhard, DVM, MS, Founder and CEO of MentorVet.

The early success of the MentorVet program is in large part based on their novel research, evidence-based practices, and ongoing evaluation. The impact report revealed evidence that MentorVet participants post-program had higher levels of wellbeing and felt significantly more likely to feel like they had healthy ways for managing their stress as compared to a control group of early career veterinarians. This is a vital finding because the recent Merck Animal Health Wellbeing Study found that having a healthy way to manage stress was one of the most important predictors for good mental health and wellbeing within the profession.

Edris Grate, DVM, a MentorVet Program participant, shared this sentiment when discussing his experiences in the program, "I have felt the isolation of the day-to-day job and that can be taxing in situations where there's a high level of stress, anxiety, fear, doubt, or any draining feelings so this community not only helps to lessen that isolation but helps to equip you to handle those situations."

MentorVet collaborates with a growing number of practice groups, veterinary medical associations, and corporations to make the program possible. Over the past year, they have developed relationships with 11 different sponsors and partners including founding sponsor, Merck Animal Health, who provides ongoing support to help the mentorship and professional development program grow.

“I am so hopeful about the future of veterinary medicine. It takes large-scale collective action to create systemic changes within the veterinary profession, and over the past year, the veterinary community has truly come together to support the next generation of professionals. I can’t wait to see what the future will bring,” shared Dr. Addie Reinhard.
